Supervoid: Filming Summer 2025

Each year, Local Cinema Studios selects an indie film project that integrates the local community and provides a new learning experience for students. This year, the selection Supervoid was written specifically to film in Columbia, South Carolina by Norwegian Screenwriter and Director Kim Falck.

Falck, a graduate of NYU Tisch Film School, brings extensive international film experience to the project and is known for his role in the hit film Troll (2022), the most watched non-English film on Netflix.

SUPERVOID follows Sophia, a young girl captivated by astrology, whose world is turned upside down when her dog is hit by her neighbor. Raised by an overwhelmed single dad, she faces her emotions without adult guidance. Joined by her friend April, Sophia embarks on a quest for justice, discovering that embracing your true self is the key to coping—even if it sets you apart from everyone else.

This unique story blends heart and imagination, exploring the poignant journey of self-discovery at the intersection of childhood and adulthood. Producer Hanne van der Iest says, “SUPERVOID is a story about young people discovering the world with curiosity.”

In addition to Falck, we are excited to have an international team of educators and filmmakers to provide mentorship to students on filmmaking and how to work on diverse film sets. The Director of Photography is SCAD professor Jaime Villa Ruiz (Puerto Rico), and Producers are University of South Carolina professors Hanne van der Iest (Netherlands) and Dustin Whitehead (United States).

Supervoid will be filmed in summer of 2025 in Columbia, South Carolina. Casting is currently in progress, and you can submit an audition here. Aligning with Local Cinema’s mission to incorporate film into regional communities and regional communities into film, we will partner with local ambassadors who will have the opportunity to host meals, visit the set, or even be extras in the film. For more information on how to get involved please contact: info@localcinemastudios.com

Local Cinema Studio’s Get on Set Initiative is sponsored by the South Carolina Film Commission in partnership with the University of South Carolina. The initiative provides experience on a professional film set to South Carolina students and recent graduates looking to break into the industry. These students will have the unique opportunity to grow skills while expanding the film crew, community, and economic impact in South Carolina.
